The Toyota HBCU New York Football Classic presented by Walmart will take place on September 17, 2022 at MetLife Stadium

NEW YORK, NY – Sept. 12, 2022 – NPR will be an official sponsor of The Toyota HBCU New York Football Classic presented by Walmart. This Historically Black College and University (HBCU) college football game is scheduled to be played annually at MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford, NJ on September 17th.

NPR will be spotlighting its line-up of compelling and award-winning podcasts. Featuring more voices, stories, ideas, and perspectives, NPR’s podcast portfolio shows audiences their world as it really is. Episode by episode, they take listeners deeper into rich discussions – from fearless conversations about race; to entertaining explorations of today’s economy; to compelling storytelling on cultures around the world; to tangible advice on how to live a better life.

The Toyota HBCU New York Football Classic presented by Walmart features teams from the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) and the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC). The two featured football teams participating in this historic game are Howard University and Morehouse College, two of the country’s most prestigious HBCU’s. One of the missions of the game is to raise funds and awareness for the HBCU “Tools for School” in which one student from each HBCU (105) will receive financial assistance and the necessary technology tools to enhance their educational success in college.

“Having NPR join us as an official partner further expands the reach of HBCUs,” said Albert Williams, CEO of Sports Eleven05 LLC, producers of the game. “This partnership in more ways than one will bring the conversation of the importance of these vital institutions to the national level on a medium that’s becoming vastly popular amongst Americans.”

“NPR’s mission is to reflect, inform, and serve America — and we see no greater opportunity to reach new audiences than at this important moment for the HBCU community,” said NPR’s CMO Michael Smith. “We also have an extensive HBCU alumni roster at NPR, including Morehouse alum Saeed Ahmed, our Director of Digital News; Kia Miakka Natisse, co-host of Invisibilia and Ayesha Roscoe, host of Up First Saturday, so we are proud to be a sponsor of this event. Plus, our very purpose as a media institution is to inform and educate the public, so we are also honored to support the game’s mission of raising funds for enhanced educational success for HBCU students.”

The Toyota HBCU New York Football Classic presented by Walmart, which will be broadcast live nationally on CNBC from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM, is projected to generate about $15 million in economic impact for the New Jersey and New York Convention and Visitors Bureau.
